Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general correspondent for NBC News two year later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. She was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. She traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times to summits and debate issues such as that of the Iran Contra scandal.
